I met a man locked awayfor things he hadn’t doneInnocence on a ball and chainHe’ll never feel the sun again on his faceOr roses in his handsBut when he smiled at meI could understandIf you’re free you’ll never see the wallsIf your head is clear you’ll never free-fallIf you’re right you’ll never fear the wrongIf your head is high you’ll never fear at allThere was a daughter of a manWho took his life too youngShe swore she’d never do the sameThen did just what he’d doneAnd a boy who’s gone insaneHad voices in his headNo one knows what they sayNow his mother’s deadIf you’re free you’ll never see the wallsIf your head is clear you’ll never free-fallIf you’re right you’ll never fear the wrongIf your head is high you’ll never fear at allThere was a man who had a faceThat looked a lot like meI saw him in the mirror andI fought him in the streetAnd when he turned awayI shot him in the headThen I came to realizeI had killed myselfIf you’re free you’ll never see the wallsIf your head is clear you’ll never free-fallIf you’re right you’ll never fear the wrongIf your head is high you’ll never fear
